WFI Productions Ltd. (2005) / Director: Roger Donaldson / Production Designer: J. Dennis Washington
My principal task as Art Director on The World's Fastest Indian was to recreate Speed Week 1962 on the Bonneville Salt Flats, where legendary Burt Monro (Anthony Hopkins) seeks to set a land speed record. Here is a wide shot of "The Village" we created.
Here is a closer view of our recreation of Speed Week 1962. We found a man who had been there as a boy and closely studied his old Kodachrome slides to be as exacting as we could be. Essentially every tent and structure was a custom-built recreation from those slides.
